We
work with the Ministry of Education
to deliver Physical Education programs
in schools throughout Zambia and to
coordinate the mobilisation and training
of teachers in Physical Education
and sport integrated with health and
life skills education.
Norwegian
Olympic & Paralympic Committee
and Confederation of Sports (NIF)
NIF
are our oldest partners. They have acted
as our parents, nurturing us as we have
developed since 1998.
NIF
contribute to all aspects of our programs
as well as the provision of equipment.
It is through NIF that we were introduced
to the Kicking AIDS Out network. Kicking
AIDS Out is a concept that uses sport,
physical activity and traditional
movement games with HIV & AIDS
prevention and education. Sport In
Action has rolled out this approach
to its project sites as a means to
contribute to the spread of the HIV
& AIDS virus.
International
Alliance for Youth Sport (IAYS)
IAYS,
of which Sport In Action Executive
Director, Mr. Clement Chileshe, is
the African representative, spear-head
the Game ON! program. This allows
youth to develop sports skills while
also learning how to make healthy
life style decisions and avoid negative
behaviours that lead to risk of HIV
& AIDS infection, drug and alcohol
abuse and crime. IAYS support all
aspects of our programs including
the provision of sports equipment.
Save
The Children Sweden (SCS)
SCS
support our Child Empowerment Through
Sport program with a specific focus
on the dissemination of child rights
and HIV & AIDS prevention education,
but also including other health and
life skills.
SCS
resources contribute towards four
project sites, namely Kabwe, Kapiri
Mposhi, Chirundu and Chongwe, although
the program is set to expand in the
near future to reach our other districts,
all of which already educate children,
youth and adults on child rights and
HIV & AIDS prevention.
UNICEF
UNICEF
provides us with the financial resources
to train teachers and community coaches
in Physical Education and sport integrated
in health and life skills in five
districts, namely Lusaka, Chirundu,
Petauke, Kaoma and Mongu. UNICEF also
provides for trained teachers and
coaches to be mentored, monitored
and evaluated and for the organisation
and implementation of sports festivals
for children.
UK
Sport
UK
Sport support us through the International
Development through Excellence and
Leadership in Sport (IDEALS) project
where students from six UK universities
spend three months in Zambia working
alongside peer leaders to develop
leadership and sports coaching skills.
UK
Sport also provides financial resources
for the International Inspirations
(II) program. The II program, linked
to the London 2012 Olympics supports
the provision of sport integrated
with health and life skills but also
acts as a program through which talented
youth can be identified and developed
for London 2012.
Durham
University
Durham
University is the lead UK university
within UK Sport’s IDEALS project.
It also donates financial resources
and sports equipment independently
of UK Sport. Durham has contributed
to the renovation of facilities as
well as providing motivational ‘prizes’
for top peer leaders.
